The Italian national team has qualified for the World Cup to be held in South Africa with one match to go, after drawing 2-2 in Ireland. Marcello Lippi fielded all the bianconeri who were called-up: Buffon, Legrottaglie, Chiellini, Grosso, Camoranesi and Iaquinta, who had a good match.
Ireland scored the opener on the 7th minute thanks to Whelan and Mauro Camoranesi equalized on the 26th minute celebrating his 50th international cap. At the beginning of the second half a Iaquinta goal was disallowed due to off-side. The ending was very exciting with Ledger scoring on the 41st minute and the draw which meant qualification scored by Gilardino following a splendid pass by Iaquinta.
